A primary school teacher in Petah Tikva was evacuated for medical treatment on Thursday after a fourth-grade pupil threw a stainless-steel bottle at her and hit her in the head. Her condition was reported as stable. The teacher, who is also the class educator, had been trying to separate a fight between students when the child attacked her.
According to the report, the pupil tried to grab her phone when she attempted to call for help, then continued beating her. He later struck classroom desks with the bottle, overturned tables, and threatened students. The teacher tried to protect her pupils and move them away from danger, but the child then hurled the bottle at her forcefully, causing the head injury.
The article says violence against students and school staff in Israel’s education system continues to escalate. It notes that two months ago, a seventh-grade student in a Tel Aviv middle school attacked two students and staff members with an electric stun device and a knife, and punched several staff women in the middle school principal’s office. Police were called and the student was arrested.
A few days earlier, a fifth-grade pupil at an elementary school in Hod HaSharon attacked the school principal after she tried to break up a fight between several students. The piece also references broader concern over school violence, including educators saying they have no authority against severe youth violence.
