Kai Trump, the 17-year-old granddaughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, set off an online controversy after posting a series of vlogs from the White House. The videos offered a rare look at private areas of the presidential residence, including a bowling alley, a golf simulator room, a gym and a personal dressing room.
She also revealed that she stayed in one of the White House’s historic and well-known rooms. The clips drew millions of views and quickly turned into a heated social media argument.
Supporters said the videos gave the public an unprecedented view of parts of the White House that are usually kept off limits. One user wrote, “Most people give a tour of their house, Kai Trump just posted a vlog from the White House.”
Critics questioned whether a teenager with no public office should receive such visibility because of her family connection to the president, and whether it was appropriate to show the White House from the inside. The dispute also revived the broader debate over the line between the president’s family’s private life and the public’s right to see the world’s most famous official residence, as well as how social media is changing the way the White House is presented.
