A series of protests against Hamas is expected to take place tomorrow across the Gaza Strip under the hashtag "June 26 Revolution." The planned demonstrations come after more than a year in which Gaza residents did not publicly protest against the terrorist organization, which has worked extensively to deter dissent. The report was published today, Thursday, on Kan News' "Half the Day" program on Reshet Bet.
One of the organizers told Kan News that participants are facing severe threats to their lives from Hamas. "They accuse us of treason, including clan leaders backed by Hamas in Gaza, they threaten anyone who opposes Hamas. We are all in danger but still stand behind the idea that we deserve to live without the terrorist organization," he said.
According to him, the goal of the protests is first and foremost to topple Hamas rule. "We want another force to govern the Strip, whether a technocrats committee or another international civilian body that will end the Nazi and fascist rule. All Hamas cares about is levying taxes and staying in power because it fears the people's uprising against it," he said.
This week, Hamas told media outlets identified with it that its men had arrested groups it described as "cooperating with Israel" across the Strip and said "some of its operatives are expected to be executed." The activist said this was no coincidence and was meant to stop the protests, claiming Hamas publishes photos of suspected collaborators, then arrests, tortures, and executes them to deter others. He rejected Hamas' claim that Israel organized the demonstrations, saying, "Only Gazans are behind tomorrow's protests. Hamas is lying that it is the Shin Bet and the Mossad." He said he hopes the protests will go ahead tomorrow, though fear of harm could still prevent them.
