U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington still wants an agreement with Iran, but only on terms it can accept. Speaking about the talks, he said, “We want a deal, but not at any price.”
Rubio also rejected any arrangement under which the Strait of Hormuz would belong to a state. “We will not accept a situation where the Strait of Hormuz belongs to any country,” he said, adding that whether such control is described as a payment or a fee is, in his words, “ultimately semantics.”
He said any agreement must take allied interests into account. “We want to make sure that every decision made in the agreement takes into account the interests of our allies,” Rubio added.
