Zaki Sued, the uncle of Staff Sgt. Maj. (res.) Bassel Sued, spoke to ynet’s studio after his nephew was killed overnight in an operational accident in Lebanon. He described him as “a man among men,” “salt of the earth,” and “a person above and beyond,” saying Bassel loved helping and supporting everyone.
According to Zaki Sued, Bassel was called up for reserve duty on October 8 and had spent at least two years in reserves. In their last conversation three days earlier, Zaki told him to come home safely. Bassel replied, “Uncle, don’t worry, everything will be fine, trust me,” and Zaki said he was the family’s regular standby, the one everyone relied on.
Zaki Sued also spoke about the Druze community’s fallen servicemen, saying the community has served in the IDF for years and that this is part of daily life. He called it part of the covenant between the Druze and the state and people of Israel.
