A new poll by the INSS, published Wednesday, finds that 66% of Israelis believe the recently agreed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is bad for Israel. The survey also suggests a bleak public mood about the outcome of the latest confrontation with Iran, with only 15% saying Israel won, 37% saying Iran won, and 43% saying the war ended without a clear winner.
The poll says 41% think Israel’s security situation worsened after Operation "Roar of the Lions," while 26% say it improved. Looking ahead, 68% believe Israel will have to renew the war with Iran within a year, and 54% think it will be able to do so. The survey says this reflects a new low in public assessments of Israel’s national security since the war began, with only 20% rating the situation as good or very good, 42% calling it bad or very bad, and 37% describing it as moderate.
On the northern front, 81% say the security situation does not allow residents to feel safe. A majority, 57%, say Israel should not fully withdraw from Lebanon even if Hezbollah complies with the ceasefire agreement. In addition, 59% support military action against Hezbollah even if it leads to a confrontation with President Trump, and 52% say the same about another strike on Iran.
Only 35% think Israel can act solely according to its own interests when there is a gap between Jerusalem and Washington on political and security matters. Regarding U.S. President Donald Trump, 57% say he is committed to Israel’s security interests only when it serves his own personal interests, and just 12% believe he is very committed to protecting Israel’s interests, down sharply from 34.5% in March during Operation "Roar of the Lions."
