The Knesset’s legal office on Wednesday filed its response to petitions submitted to the High Court of Justice over the plenary vote that selected the State Comptroller, arguing that the process was not flawed. In its affidavit, the office said, "In our case, there was no defect in the election that goes to the root of the matter. Beyond what is necessary, if there had been a flaw in the election, then we would have had to address its consequences."
The petitions seek to cancel the appointment of Michael Ravilo as State Comptroller. They claim the vote violated ballot secrecy after Knesset members took selfies with their ballots behind the voting booth.
The filing is the Knesset Legal Department’s direct response to the High Court challenge and defends the validity of the election despite the alleged breach of secrecy. The court will now consider the petitions and the state’s position before deciding whether to intervene in the appointment.
