Israel’s High Court of Justice issued an order nisi directing the Knesset to explain why it should not cancel the election of attorney Michael Ravilo as state comptroller. The petition centers on claims that the vote’s secrecy was violated after several lawmakers took photos behind the privacy screen in the plenum.
The court set a deadline for the state’s response. The Knesset and other state authorities must file their answer with the High Court by Wednesday at 12:00 noon. No ruling on the merits of the appointment has yet been issued, only a requirement for the state to explain why the election should stand.
The case focuses on whether the alleged photography during the vote undermined the secrecy required for the comptroller selection and therefore invalidates the result.
