State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman said on Wednesday that senior military officials asked him to remove the accountability chapter from investigations into the failures of October 7, but he refused.
Speaking at the MUNI EXPO 2026 local government conference, Englman said the pressure came during the audit work into the lapses surrounding Hamas's October 7 attack. He said he had received requests from senior officials connected to the army's inquiries.
"Senior officials asked me to remove the responsibility chapter from the investigations. I did not agree in any way to do that," Englman told conference participants. He added that responsibility is an essential part of any review or audit of the events that led to the attack.
Englman stressed that those involved in the failures must be examined as part of the ongoing investigations and audits. "We must take responsibility," he said, underscoring that the accountability issue cannot be separated from the broader inquiry into the October 7 disaster.
