A new trend has spread on X, formerly Twitter, in Canada, where young Muslim women who immigrated to the country are posting side-by-side photos of themselves, one from their country of origin wearing a hijab and a recent one in Western clothing. The posts are being shared and copied by users who add their own before-and-after images.
Several of the women framed the change as a personal celebration. One wrote, "I was wearing a hijab and I have a lot of joy from my change." Another posted, "The more Muslims cry, the better," a line that helped drive the trend's notoriety.
Many participants also said how much time had passed between the two photos and presented the switch as a sign of freedom and release. Supportive replies praised the women for autonomy and liberation. At the same time, many observant Muslims reacted angrily to the posts.
One critic wrote, "I don't think you will have a good life after death if you chose not to obey Allah." The article says the trend gained momentum in recent days and has become a flashpoint between those celebrating personal freedom and those offended by the public rejection of hijab.
