Barak Itzhaki, 41, is being considered for the head coaching position at Bulgarian club Ludogorets after leaving Beitar Jerusalem, where he spent more than two successful years. The report says this would be his first coaching job outside Israel.
On Sport 5’s “In the Air,” Bulgarian football legend Emil Vlev, who played for many years in Israel, said Ludogorets can offer a coach a salary of between 700,000 and 800,000 euros. The club is also looking for a replacement for current coach Per-Mathias Høgmo.
Høgmo still has a contract for next season, but Bulgarian reports said he missed his team’s first training sessions because of illness. Ludogorets are searching for a new coach after a disappointing season in which they finished third in the Bulgarian league and failed to win the championship for the first time in 14 years.
Itzkhaki became a free agent several weeks ago after ending his stint at Beitar, the first club he had coached on a regular basis. With the top coaching jobs in Israeli football already filled, the report says he may end up working abroad.
