Unusual red skies were seen in recent days over Chelyabinsk in southern Russia’s Ural Mountains shortly before a powerful weather system arrived. The storm brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail to the area.
Video shared on social media showed deep red clouds covering the sky and creating an unusual scene. Local authorities said the phenomenon was observed shortly before the region was hit by extreme weather, and residents were warned in advance about strong rain, powerful winds and thunderstorms.
Meteorologists said red tones in the sky can appear when sunlight is refracted and reflected through dense cloud layers and particles in the atmosphere, especially at sunrise or sunset and during unusual weather conditions.
