With the arrival of the Israeli summer, air conditioner technicians are among the country’s most in-demand professionals. One of them, Itay Cohen, has worked in the field for five years after taking a dedicated training course. He told the program "The Morning World" that he was drawn to the job because "I was curious about the profession, I saw there was insane demand."
Cohen said the most common problems he encounters are usually linked to poor maintenance. The number one cause of service calls, he said, is clogged filters, explaining, "First of all, people do not take care to clean the filters." He also pointed to low refrigerant gas as another frequent malfunction. His message was that routine upkeep is essential, especially during hot summer days when every hour without cooling is felt immediately.
He stressed that simple preventive care can save customers unnecessary expenses and frustration, and that keeping the system clean is the first and most important step any owner can take to ensure efficient, continuous cooling throughout the season. Cohen also noted a technological shift in the industry, especially inverter systems. "Now a new inverter has entered the market, and it is more energy efficient than the previous systems," he said.
On pricing, Cohen said he tries to be flexible with customers. If he carries out a repair, he does not charge for the visit itself. "Once I do the work, I do not take a call-out fee. I charge only for the work itself," he said. The main takeaway from the conversation is that preventive maintenance, especially regular filter cleaning, is the key to avoiding common breakdowns, while buyers should also consider the savings offered by inverter technology.
