National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir approved the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Ahisamakh in Lod today, Monday, as eligible for private gun permits under his expanded firearms reform. Residents who meet the legal criteria will be able to apply for an individual weapons license.
Ben Gvir also added the cities of Yavne, Rosh HaAyin and Even Yehuda, along with the regional council of Haval Modiin. The newly approved communities in that council are Kfar Truman, Beit Arif, Hadid, Be'erot Yitzhak, Nofekh, Mazor, Bnei Atarot, Rinatya, Nehalim, Ben Shemen, Ginaton, Kfar Daniel and Kerem Ben Shemen.
Ahisamakh is described as one of Israel's largest and fastest-growing Haredi neighborhoods, and it joins dozens of other places already covered by the reform. Since the expansion began, more than 270,000 citizens have received private gun permits, a figure the article calls unprecedented.
The report recalls the deadly shooting attack at Jerusalem's Ramot junction, where a Haredi civilian armed under Ben Gvir's reform confronted and killed the attacker, preventing what officials described as a much worse disaster. Ben Gvir said he was proud to continue the “revolution” by adding more cities, towns and neighborhoods, and added, “People have a basic right to defend themselves and their families. My policy is clear: weapons in the right hands save lives.”
