Former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar issued a rare public attack on the documentary series "Generals' Rebellion" just hours before its debut on Channel 14 on Monday at 10:30 p.m. His comments came ahead of the first episode of the four-part series, which is based on Eran Tadmor's bestseller.
The series examines relations between Israel's political leadership and the security establishment in the years before October 7 and during the war. It argues that senior security officials acted over the years in ways that undermined the elected leadership's standing and the government's ability to set policy.
Bar rejected the claims and said they distort reality. "The claims are false and include partial, biased quotations that distort the picture," he said. He also said, "The reasons that led to the massacre can only be investigated by a state commission of inquiry."
Bar added, "Anyone with Israel's security in mind has nothing to fear." Channel 14 said his full response will be published after the premiere airs tonight.
