Kevin Garnett, one of the NBA’s all-time greats and a former champion and MVP, said Victor Wembanyama should focus on strengthening his core and offered to work with him. On his podcast with Paul Pierce, Garnett suggested he could coach the San Antonio star ahead of next season and said, "I think he needs to work on his core strength. That is the most important emphasis." He added, "When I had to get the ball, move it under the basket? I was the best at that. I’d love to work with him, but this generation does things differently."
Garnett noted that he was also a relatively slim player, yet managed to thrive for years in a more physical league. He has previously run a workshop for Wembanyama, and now says he wants to train him more extensively during the coming summer.
Wembanyama has said he wants to improve his passing. Last summer, he trained intensely, including spending an extended period at a kung fu monastery. The Defensive Player of the Year led San Antonio to the playoffs for the first time since 2014, before the team lost 4:1 to the New York Knicks in the final.
