Dustin Nolan, a local NBC news anchor in Iowa, announced live on Friday morning that he is leaving his role, and became emotional as he said goodbye to viewers. While fighting back tears, he told the audience, “I hope everyone who let me be part of their mornings knows how seriously I took this job.”
Nolan said he had worked at the station since 2022 and stressed that his goal had always been to report on issues that truly matter. He argued that local news should do more than cover trends or “sanitized news” meant to keep viewers comfortable. “We have to get people out of their bubbles and comfort zones and make them think about the world we all live in,” he said, in a pointed criticism of the industry.
He also thanked his wife and colleague Jenna Jackson during the broadcast. The pair won a Mid-America Emmy in 2025 for Best Morning Daytime Newscast in small and medium markets. After the segment, the station posted Nolan’s farewell clip on its official TikTok account.
Nolan said he was leaving the industry, but did not give a specific explanation for his departure. As of the report, KWQC TV6 had not issued a formal response to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
