President Donald Trump issued a defensive post on Truth Social after the New York Times published a critical headline saying that after nearly four months of war, analysts believe “not much has changed.” The article says Trump has been under mounting criticism in recent days over the memorandum of understanding with Iran, and that his angry replies suggest the attack has hit a nerve.
In his response, Trump rejected the newspaper’s framing and tried to present the confrontation as a victory. He wrote, “Really?” and listed what he described as major Iranian losses, saying the Iranian military is “finished,” its navy and air force are “gone,” and its missile, drone and production capabilities have been almost completely damaged.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s top two leadership layers are no longer in place, arguing that the change is dramatic rather than minor. He expanded the argument to Iran’s internal situation, saying inflation there is 250%, the economy is weak, and soldiers are not being paid.
At the same time, he stressed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, oil continues to flow, and U.S. stock and employment figures are at historic highs. He ended with a harsh attack on the newspaper and its critics, calling them “cowards, corrupt and unethical.” The article says the post showed the pressure Trump is facing as he tries to preserve a narrative of victory despite growing skepticism in the United States.
