The ministerial committee on legislation has approved a bill aimed at speeding up electricity connections for residential buildings in Druze villages, even where formal planning procedures have not yet been completed.
The proposal was advanced by Energy Minister Eli Cohen and Likud MK Afif Abed. Under the bill, the energy minister would be able to approve a grid connection after receiving an opinion from the district planner and a commitment from the local authority to advance a plan to regularize the area within two years.
The measure is intended to address the housing shortage in Druze communities. It would create a quicker path to electricity for homes that are now waiting for planning processes to be finalized.
