An Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland overnight from Saturday to Sunday for another round of talks with the United States, after a memorandum of understanding was signed in Islamabad. The delegation was led by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, alongside other senior energy officials.
Iran used the flight itself as a messaging tool. The delegation’s mission was labeled “Minab 168,” a reference to 168 people in Iran who were killed in a U.S. military strike on February 28 that hit a girls’ school in the city of Minab, killing most of the victims as students and educational staff. The article says Tehran is deliberately projecting a narrative of victimhood and supposed moral superiority.
The talks were originally scheduled to begin on Friday, but Iran pushed them back by two days. Tehran said the delay was because of Israeli attacks in Lebanon. Despite that, the sides are set to meet today, even though numerous intense strikes were carried out during the Sabbath.
