Iran’s delegation to talks with the United States in Switzerland reportedly left the meeting on Sunday after public threats from President Donald Trump, according to Arab media reports. The two sides had met shortly before at a resort in Switzerland when Trump, speaking on Fox News, warned Iran, "If you close the Strait of Hormuz, you will not have a country." He also told the Iranian delegation, "You will not even survive the trip back to your country."
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf answered with his own threat, saying, "They should be more careful in their emirates, our security forces are ready to respond in a completely different way." Afterward, Arab outlets began reporting that the Iranian team had walked out in protest. An Iranian source told Reuters that the talks with the United States were suspended, not ended.
However, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen, which is aligned with the Iranian regime, reported that the delegation would not return to the discussions unless Trump apologized and Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon. The American side was led by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, while the Iranian delegation was headed by Qalibaf.
The talks were focused on Lebanon and frozen Iranian assets, and were taking place at Bürgenstock resort near Lake Lucerne, overlooking the Swiss Alps in central Switzerland. Switzerland’s foreign ministry confirmed the location on X on Saturday after earlier reports had identified it.
