Liam Payne’s 8-year-old son, Bear, is expected to inherit the late singer’s full fortune, after Payne died without a will and was not married. The former One Direction star fell to his death from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires two years ago, when he was 31. Bear is Payne’s child with singer Cheryl Tweedy.
The Daily Mail reported that Bear is set to receive the entire estate, estimated at 21 million pounds, about 27.87 million dollars. Last year, Tweedy and lawyer Richard Bray were appointed to handle the singer’s estate, but only to collect and preserve the assets, not to use them. A new court decision now allows the money to be used immediately for Bear’s upbringing, including education and medical expenses, instead of waiting until he turns 18.
The reported total is several million pounds lower than earlier estimates after debts and outstanding bills. It is unclear why the value changed, whether because the assets fell in value or because Payne’s partner at the time of his death, Kate Cassidy, received the difference, although she had reportedly not intended to claim anything.
Before his death, Payne and Cassidy lived in a rented home in Florida, and he also owned a house in Britain purchased for 3.25 million pounds near Tweedy and Bear. Payne died in October 2024 in Brazil, where he had traveled with Cassidy to see his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan perform. After the concert, Cassidy returned to the United States and Payne stayed at the hotel. Several people were later charged with manslaughter over his death, but those charges were dropped. Two others were accused of supplying cocaine. Toxicology findings later identified cocaine, ketamine, ecstasy, and crystal meth in his system, and investigators also found alcohol and anti-anxiety medication in his room.
