King Charles and Prince William Reveal Tax Payments for the First Time

King Charles III has disclosed his tax payments publicly for the first time, showing that he paid 12.9 million pounds in the 2024 to 2025 tax year. That places him among Britain’s 100 biggest taxpayers. His son and heir, Prince William, said he paid 7.76 million pounds for the same period.

For the 2023 to 2024 tax year, Charles paid 11.7 million pounds, while William paid 8.34 million pounds. Britain’s tax year begins in April. The newly released financial reports also say the monarchy’s main annual public funding will rise to nearly 100 million pounds in 2027 to 2028.

Buckingham Palace said the king and prince chose to publish the figures voluntarily and were not legally required to do so. The palace said the move was meant to increase transparency and “encourage wider understanding of our accountability.” The disclosures did not explain how the tax amounts were calculated, but said both men paid at the highest tax rate.

Charles receives income from the Duchy of Lancaster, an estate created to provide the monarch with an independent source of money for official and private expenses. Its assets include land, investments and property, and his allocation for the current year was 25.2 million pounds. Additional taxable income comes from the king’s investments, savings, and private estates at Balmoral and Sandringham. William’s income comes from the Duchy of Cornwall, which includes an estate worth 1 billion pounds. His office said he understands public interest in these financial arrangements and the importance of proper transparency. The filings also showed that William’s three-day visit to Saudi Arabia was the most expensive official trip of the year at 130,000 pounds, and that royals took 177 helicopter flights this year at a total cost of 733,000 pounds.
