Talks over ending the fighting in Lebanon have moved to Switzerland, where Iran, the United States and Qatar are holding a trilateral meeting aimed at stabilizing the ceasefire and linking it to broader understandings between Washington and Tehran.
According to Iranian reporting, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the main issue in the discussions is the continuation of the fighting in Lebanon. He said work on a final agreement can begin only after the memorandum’s terms are implemented, especially a halt to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.
The Associated Press said the contacts are taking place at Bürgenstock in Switzerland, with an American delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance and senior Iranian officials. Qatar and Pakistan are involved as mediators, and the Iranians are expected to meet the mediators before a broader session with the American side.
The talks come against the backdrop of severe tensions around Lebanon, after ceasefires announced in recent days failed to fully stop the fighting. Before departing for Switzerland, Vance said he hoped for progress both on the nuclear issue and on the Lebanon ceasefire.
