An unusually severe rainstorm hit Wuhan in central China, causing major traffic disruption, damage to infrastructure, and trapping residents in several parts of the city. According to official data, about 220 millimeters of rain fell in just 10 hours, an extreme amount typically seen over several months.
The deluge pushed water levels up on major streets, blocking key transport routes and nearly bringing traffic to a standstill. Dozens of vehicles were left submerged, and many residents were trapped in their homes and cars.
Local rescue and emergency teams were dispatched in reinforced numbers to multiple locations across the city. They spent hours carrying out difficult rescue operations to evacuate people caught in the floodwaters.
