Intelligence sources in the region say Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem has recently seen a major rise in his standing inside the organization, according to a report aired by Kan 11’s Roi Kais. The report says Qassem is now heavily involved in Hezbollah’s biggest decisions, not only in political or image-related matters, but also in operational planning.
That marks a clear shift from the start of his tenure, which began after Hassan Nasrallah was killed and after the November 2024 ceasefire agreement. At that stage, many inside Hezbollah and around it doubted Qassem’s ability to lead the group in the post-Nasrallah era, in part because he was not seen as the most natural or strongest successor.
The assessment is that, despite continuing criticism of him, Qassem’s decision to open a campaign against Israel after the war with Iran strengthened his internal position. What was viewed externally as a risky gamble appears to have helped him establish himself as an active leader rather than only a technical heir to Nasrallah.
