In a segment on Kikar HaShabbat, Mishpacha editor Yossi Elituv argued that many people think Torah is acquired through talent, sharpness, and knowledge, but the sages teach that humility is the true key.
He cited the verse “And from the wilderness, a gift” to explain that someone who becomes like a desert, empty of pride and self-importance, merits receiving Torah as a gift. In his framing, Torah is not only wisdom a person earns, but a divine light that is given.
Elituv said that the more a person is filled with himself, the less room there is for Torah, while the more he lowers his spirit, the more the “gates of the gift” open before him. The item is presented as a full featured religious commentary segment.
