Thousands of donors have already brought a fundraising campaign for the elevation of the soul of Daniel Klapholtz to 70% of its target, after he died in a tragic accident. The family says the project, writing a Torah scroll in his memory, has drawn support from Jews who did not know them, offering prayers, donations and comfort during their mourning.
Daniel, described as a young boy, was killed when a bus driver backed up and did not notice him. With the project now close to completion and the planned הכנסת ספר תורה approaching, the family says only about 30% of the goal remains to be raised before the scroll can be placed in the ark.
In a personal letter, Daniel’s father thanked the public and asked for one last effort. He wrote that after losing Daniel, the family saw “the great heart of the people of Israel,” and said, “I am turning to you as a father, not in the name of a campaign, not in the name of a project, but in the name of a father’s heart that misses his son every moment.”
The father urged anyone who has not yet taken part to contribute now, and those who already donated to share the effort with others. He said each letter in the Torah scroll will be “another memory, another light, and another continuation” for Daniel’s soul, and closed by saying, “Just one more small push, and we reach the goal.”
