Iran's Supreme National Security Council said that, following the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, ship traffic through the passage will increase only gradually.
In a statement, the council said that, because of the special conditions and the presence of safety hazards along the transit route, ships must move according to the route and timing assigned to them. The aim, it said, is to ensure safe passage and prevent maritime accidents.
The council added that these restrictions are intended to allow traffic through the strait to expand step by step, rather than immediately at full scale.
