A resident of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, got an unwelcome surprise when he found a large alligator lying at his front door. The sight prompted a call to animal control and additional responders to the scene.
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said an animal control officer was dispatched after the homeowner “discovered an unexpected guest settled right next to the front door.” The office joked that these days “knocking on the door is optional.”
Authorities said the alligator was “significantly larger than we are equipped to handle safely under normal procedures” and was also “not going to obey instructions of any kind.” Because of its size, officers from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were called in to help.
The sheriff’s office said the team was able to secure the alligator safely and move it to a more suitable location, one “very far from front doors, welcome mats and any future real estate ambitions.”
