The Central District Court in Lod sentenced 20-year-old Zohar Goder to six and a half years in prison after he attacked another young man with a hammer out of jealousy and caused him severe injuries.
According to the court, Goder arrived at a house where his 16-year-old girlfriend was staying because he suspected other young men were there. At the entrance, he struck the victim from behind on the head with a hammer, even though the victim had no connection to the incident.
The injured man was taken to the hospital with a crushed skull fracture and remained sedated and ventilated for nine days. Judge Merav Greenberg said the case involved a serious violent offense at the highest level of severity, carried out against the background of an obsessive and possessive attitude toward his partner.
In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Goder to pay the victim 50,000 shekels in compensation.
