Information collected by Kupa Ha'ir showed that the large number of orphans in the Haredi community requires extraordinary assistance. In the month of Tammuz alone, 69 orphaned brides and grooms from across the Haredi world are getting married, after years of emotional and financial hardship, and must build new homes without the support of parents who would normally guide and help them.
Kupa Ha'ir rabbis brought the situation to Rabbi David Cohen, a prominent yeshiva head who is known for taking an active interest in communal and individual distress. They told him that the wedding expenses are enormous and that special mobilization is needed so these 69 couples can be supported at this critical moment.
In response, Rabbi Cohen issued an unusual public appeal and wrote a personal blessing for donors. He said that anyone who gives 690 shekels for the 69 orphans marrying in Tammuz 5786, and thereby brings joy in heaven, will merit, “by measure for measure,” Jewish satisfaction from all their descendants and “astonishing divine assistance in educating the children.”
The appeal presents the donation as both urgent aid for the couples and an opportunity for the public to participate in their weddings. Kupa Ha'ir is urging the public to contribute the requested amount and help the orphaned brides and grooms establish their homes with dignity and joy.
