Cleaning windows and glass without leaving streaks can be difficult, which is why store shelves are full of specialized products. Vinegar is often the go-to natural alternative, but cleaning experts at Crowd Cleaners say an even simpler kitchen item works better, used black tea bags. They say the homemade solution came after years of trial and error, and that they finally found their “miracle ingredient” for clean windows.
The recipe calls for 10 to 15 used black tea bags, not green tea, steeped in about 300 milliliters of boiling water. After that, the mixture is topped up with 20 to 50 milliliters of regular window-cleaning liquid and poured into a spray bottle. The result, according to the experts, is ready to use as a streak-free glass cleaner.
For the best results, they recommend using a good-quality squeegee or even old newspaper. The glass should be sprayed generously, wiped gently with the soft side of a sponge, and treated carefully around greasy spots. Then it should be wiped with a cloth dipped in warm water, sprayed again, and dried.
If using a squeegee, the suggested technique is to start at the top right corner, pull horizontally in an arcing motion, and then move downward. The experts say it may take two or three rounds of wetting and scraping to get completely clear glass. With newspaper, they warn against over-wetting, since it can turn soggy and smear, and advise using wrinkle-free sheets, pressing from the top corner downward, and rubbing harder on stubborn marks.
