Real Madrid are still prioritizing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández as their main target to strengthen the center of midfield for next season. According to a report in Marca, the Argentine is José Mourinho’s preferred choice, with the coach wanting another proven-quality midfielder for the squad.
Fernández has previously said he would like to play in Madrid. He said, “I would like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid, it reminds me of Buenos Aires. I would live in Madrid. A player lives where he wants. I get by in English, but I would do better in Spanish.” Those comments caused a stir at Chelsea and even led to his temporary exclusion from the squad.
The report says Fernández’s agent, Javier Pastore, is aware of Real Madrid’s interest and of the player’s own desire to move. The deal would be very complicated, however, because Chelsea are not expected to sell him for less than 120 million euros, the amount they paid Benfica in 2023. The London club are not ruling out a sale, but they are also not expected to make it easy for one of their key players to leave.
Meanwhile, Real are trying to build their squad as early as possible for the coming season and are already assessing alternatives. Among them is 21-year-old Matheus Fernandes, who belongs to West Ham, as well as Ayyoub Bouaddi, considered one of the standout surprises at the World Cup. Any movement on those names could shape Madrid’s next steps in the transfer market.
