Harry Kane added another milestone to his career on Wednesday at the 2026 World Cup, scoring to put England ahead 1-0 against Croatia. The Bayern Munich striker, who missed the decisive penalty against France in the 2022 quarterfinals, took his World Cup total to nine goals.
Five of Kane’s nine World Cup goals have come from penalties, and he has scored penalties in three different World Cups. His tally moved him one ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a tougher night in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Kane is now one goal short of England’s all-time top World Cup scorer, Gary Lineker, who has 10. The England captain also reached 80 goals for the national team in 115 appearances, strengthening his status as England’s record scorer overall.
