President Donald Trump said at a press conference that if the U.S. had not reached a deal, it could have continued striking Iran for weeks or even years. He said that without an agreement, Washington would not have opened the Strait of Hormuz and Iran would not have reduced its enrichment levels.
Trump said the Iranians agreed to sign with him because he killed Qassem Soleimani. He described Soleimani as an "evil genius" and said he would not have signed any deal.
He also claimed that one country asked the U.S. to keep bombing Iran, calling that country and its people "stupid." Trump did not identify the country in his remarks.
