Day eight of the 2026 World Cup begins tomorrow with the second round of group-stage matches, including Czech Republic vs. South Africa, Switzerland vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada vs. Qatar, and Mexico vs. South Korea.
In the first of those games, both Czech Republic and South Africa are coming off opening losses, with the Czechs falling 2-1 to South Korea and South Africa losing 2-0 to Mexico. Czech coach Miroslav Koubek is not expected to make major changes, while South Africa must replace at least two players suspended from the opener.
Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina each have one point and face a potentially decisive match in the race for the next round. Johan Manzambi, who did not start in the first match, could be included in Switzerland’s lineup, while Edin Dzeko has returned to training but remains a doubt. The report says four points are expected to guarantee progression with 98% certainty, making victory especially valuable.
Canada enters its match against Qatar after a strong performance against Bosnia that ended in a draw because of many missed chances. Qatar, meanwhile, shocked Switzerland by equalizing in stoppage time. The main question for Canada is Alphonso Davies, whose availability is still unclear. Qatar coach Julen Lopetegui is pleased with his team’s first outing and is not expected to change his lineup.
Mexico and South Korea both won their opening matches and are expected to keep changes to a minimum. Mexico will be without suspended Cesar Montes, who is set to be replaced by Edson Alvarez, and right back Israel Reyes is also likely to drop to the bench, with Jorge Sanchez starting instead. South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo is satisfied with the start and is expected to field the same team.
