Travelodge said it will take several steps after Jewish guests reported finding a “Free Palestine” message in their London hotel room last week. The company said it is expanding staff training on antisemitism, diversity, and cultural sensitivity, and is reinforcing a strict policy against discrimination and hatred, including antisemitism.
According to the complaint, the guests entered the room and saw the message displayed on the television. One guest said he already felt uneasy at check-in, alleging that a staff member was cold, distant, and avoided eye contact. Travelodge said it began an internal investigation as soon as the complaint was received.
The company said the inquiry is now in its final stages, but investigators have still not determined how or when the message appeared on the screen. Travelodge added that the matter is being treated very seriously.
Chief executive Jo Boydell personally contacted the complaining guest to apologize. The chain also said it is currently speaking with representatives and organizations from the Jewish community to strengthen cooperation and reaffirm its commitment to combating antisemitism and all forms of discrimination.
