Naftali Bennett said in a Wednesday night interview on Radio 103FM that he has only admiration for Gadi Eisenkot and would agree to serve under him in order to help replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On Thursday morning, political reporter Michael Shemesh said that Bennett’s remarks exposed the crisis inside the 'Together' party and Bennett’s own position within it.
Shemesh said Bennett is ready to be Eisenkot’s number two, but that Eisenkot is not currently offering him that role because he believes it is still too early. Bennett framed his comments as part of a broader effort to unseat what he called “this bad government,” saying he would do anything to replace it and would not let ego stand in the way.
Bennett told 103FM, “I have only respect for Eisenkot, we will sit together in the next government. I will do everything in the world to replace this bad government, I will not let ego be a factor. Trumpledor said, ‘If I need to be a wheel, I will be a wheel.’”
When asked whether his political partnership with Yair Lapid was a mistake, Bennett rejected the idea, saying unity is the only way to win and that “the person happiest about a split is Netanyahu.”
