Amid growing turmoil in the joint opposition camp and fresh tension at the top of the anti-government bloc, lawmakers in Yesh Atid are calling for a major leadership reset. Their comments came after Channel 13 reported that Naftali Bennett, the head of the Together party, had recently been examining whether to break his political partnership with Yair Lapid.
In private conversations on Tuesday, Yesh Atid MKs said, “It is time to unite under Gadi Eisenkot.” They argued that the current crisis requires a complete restart of the balance of power and warned, “If we do not act now and decisively, the entire bloc could suffer a severe blow that will take away our chance for a change.”
Bennett himself did not try to cool the atmosphere. After reports of his exploratory talks about ending the arrangement with Lapid, he spoke on Tuesday about the possibility of alternative leadership and did not rule out serving in a government under former IDF chief and MK Gadi Eisenkot. People in the bloc said the Yesh Atid lawmakers’ remarks show how deep the rupture has become and reflect a loss of confidence in the current leadership.
According to those assessments, the dispute could yet produce a new political alignment that would reshape the camp ahead of the elections.
