Nahal Brigade Commander Criticizes Media for Undermining Troops

The commander of the Nahal Brigade, Colonel M., stated that external criticism, particularly from the media, significantly weakened the morale of his soldiers during Operation Gideon's Chariots, which preceded the hostage deal. He revealed in an interview with Ynet that soldiers were exposed to messages suggesting their efforts were futile, with phrases like "you're just fighting for nothing" and "you're just going." The command team worked to shield the troops from these sentiments, constantly reminding them that their mission was to bring back hostages.

Colonel M. emphasized the tangible impact of these external voices, describing the prevailing atmosphere as one of "stagnation" and "just another operation." Despite these challenges, the brigade's leadership maintained a consistent message, urging soldiers forward by reiterating the goal of rescuing hostages. He asserted that the military pressure exerted during the operation was a key factor, among others, in the return of the hostages.
