Likud has decided in recent days to shelve, at least for now, a planned political campaign meant to spotlight the close personal ties between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump. The report was aired Tuesday night on i24NEWS, citing Nadav Elimelech.
According to the report, the move reflects a significant shift in the party’s public-relations strategy. In recent election campaigns, Likud often highlighted Netanyahu’s international relationships, especially his ties to the American administration, as a major electoral asset.
The decision to stop the campaign was made after Likud reportedly concluded as early as last week that emphasizing Trump and the connection to him was not helping improve public opinion trends in Israel. The party has therefore removed the effort from its agenda for the time being.
