A dispute over blocking a road in the northern Arab village of Mashhad escalated into a mass street fight, gunfire in a residential neighborhood, and damage to a police vehicle, according to dramatic police footage. The clash, which began as an argument between family members, involved dozens of people armed with clubs, iron bars and knives.
The violence left four people injured and evacuated to hospitals with stab wounds to the stomach and back. Police from the Northern District arrived and briefly restored order, but the attackers returned soon after, this time with a handgun. Shots struck the walls of a nearby house, but no one was hurt.
The suspects fled in a black car, ramming other vehicles and trying to run over bystanders as they escaped. Officers identified the car and chased it to the entrance of Rumat Heib, where a police patrol car blocked their path. The suspects tried to smash into the patrol car, then threw the gun by the roadside before being overpowered and arrested.
Three people were detained, and the Northern District Prosecutor’s Office is now filing serious indictments against them. The incident comes amid a wider surge in deadly violence in Israel’s Arab community. Since the start of 2026, 122 people have been killed in crime and violence, up from 114 in the same period last year. The Northern District has recorded 47 victims, more than a third of the national total and a 25% increase year on year. The largest toll among cities is in Lod with nine victims, followed by Nazareth, Rahat and Umm al-Fahm with eight each, and Ramla with seven.
