Hundreds of Eilat Residents Join New Reserve Company to Defend Southern Border

In response to the ongoing war, hundreds of residents from Eilat and the Arava region have enlisted in a newly formed reserve company, EilaTeam, belonging to the 1895 "Ya'ala" Battalion. This unit is part of a larger reserve force established for the eastern front.

The company comprises a diverse group of individuals, including combat veterans from various infantry, armored, artillery, and reconnaissance units, as well as support and administrative personnel. The age range of volunteers spans from 23 to 60, encompassing young adults, parents, and grandparents. Members come from a wide array of professions, including municipal and state employees, workers from the Israel Airports Authority and the Israel Electric Corporation, tourism and hospitality industry professionals, and self-employed individuals.

Notably, the company includes reservists who have already served extensive periods since the war began, alongside individuals who previously held exemptions or were past retirement age but chose to volunteer. EilaTeam represents a broad social spectrum, with members identifying as secular, religious, traditional, Haredi, Jewish, Christian, and Druze, all working together.

The company's emblem reflects regional identity and military service, featuring the name EilaTeam, a mountain gazelle symbolizing the battalion, an anchor and sword representing the connection between the sea and combat, and the battalion number 1895. It also incorporates motifs of the sea, mountains, desert, water, and the historical Ink flag.

Major R.P., the company commander, expressed pride in the unit, stating, "The unifying factor is that we are all Israelis, and most importantly, Eilat residents. We all understand the gravity of the hour and the importance of the mission." The Eilat municipality leadership has lauded the soldiers and volunteers for their commitment to defending the region.
