Israel to Release Five Lebanese Prisoners in US-Mediated Gesture

Israel is expected to release five Lebanese prisoners and return them to Lebanon on Thursday, a move reportedly coordinated with the United States aimed at advancing negotiations between the two countries. The release comes amid ongoing discussions between Israel and Lebanon, which include the fate of Lebanese individuals captured during Israeli ground operations in the country. This anticipated release is not unprecedented. In March 2025, Israel freed five Lebanese individuals who had been detained during combat and brought into Israeli territory.
