From IDF Radar Client to CEO of Multi-Million Dollar Tech Firm
The co-founder and CEO of Magos, a radar systems developer, has transformed from a military client of defense industries into a leader in the field. Born in Ukraine and raised in Israel, he pursued a career in electrical and electronics engineering through the IDF's academic reserve program, graduating with honors from the Technion. During his six years of service in the Signal Corps, he worked with radar systems, managing multi-million dollar projects and gaining insights into the IDF's needs.
He spearheaded a project within the military to develop a radar solution for early warning against anti-tank missiles, providing soldiers with crucial seconds of warning. After his military service, he joined Alvarion, a wireless communication systems company, before leaving to co-found Magos with two friends. Their initial goal was to develop affordable tactical radar for the civilian market, working from his parents' basement.
Despite facing challenges, including the 2008 economic crisis which initially hindered investment, Magos secured work with a leading defense company. By 2014, the company launched its products globally. Today, Magos sells to customers in approximately 70 countries, generating tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue, with the Israeli market accounting for about 20% of sales. The company employs around 50 people and serves major clients in energy, infrastructure, banking, and defense sectors, operating profitably.
A recent significant development is Magos's new drone radar product, initially aimed at the civilian market. However, the war in Ukraine highlighted the military's need for effective drone detection and interception solutions. This has positioned the military sector as a new growth engine for Magos, leading to a major deal to supply hundreds of radar systems to the IDF to counter the drone threat. The company is also exploring future strategies, including potential acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and an IPO, leveraging the increasing importance of high-quality sensors in the AI era.
