Podcast Host Cancels Interview with Rabbi Amid Abuse Allegations
Avi Shoshan, host of the "Hakol Patuach" podcast, has decided not to publish an interview with Rabbi Haim Yosef David Abirgil after receiving significant public backlash. The interview had already been filmed and a teaser released, but Shoshan halted publication following numerous complaints. Critics questioned granting a platform to Abirgil, who has faced allegations and investigations into sexual offenses, including indecent acts and harassment of young women and minors. Reports from September 2025 indicated a court extended his detention as part of the investigation, though the article emphasizes these are allegations and not proven guilt.
Shoshan's decision came after the teaser sparked public outcry, with many questioning the decision to give Abirgil media exposure given the serious accusations. Despite the investment in filming and preparing the episode, Shoshan ultimately chose to cancel its release, acknowledging the public sensitivity surrounding the rabbi.
"Hakol Patuach" is known for its in-depth, personal interviews with prominent figures across various fields, aiming to create a space for open and intimate conversations. Shoshan has previously interviewed politicians, media personalities, singers, rabbis, and other public figures, often delving into sensitive personal topics. Recent guests have included Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Noa Moses, Einav Schiff, Etti Levy, Bezalel Smotrich, and Benjamin Netanyahu.
This is not the first time Shoshan's choice of guests has drawn controversy. In March, a report highlighted criticism over his decision to interview individuals accused of rape, suspected of murder, and associated with organized crime. "Hakol Patuach" was described in that report as one of Israel's most popular and controversial podcasts. However, in the case of Rabbi Abirgil, Shoshan took the unusual step of stopping publication even after the interview was in hand and promotion had begun, citing the serious allegations and the potential for the broadcast to legitimize someone facing such claims.
