President Donald Trump is considering removing senior officials in his administration who opposed a developing agreement with Iran, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe. According to a report in Israel Hayom, those who challenged the deal could face personal consequences for the positions they took in internal discussions.
At this stage, there is no additional confirmation that Trump is actually reviewing their dismissal. The internal dispute over the Iran deal was first exposed earlier by Axios.
Ratcliffe reportedly presented Trump with intelligence questioning Iran’s intentions and its willingness to honor commitments. Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also raised objections to the emerging understandings. By contrast, Vice President J.D. Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner backed moving ahead with the agreement and completing talks with Tehran.
Rubio’s position appears more secure for now. Although he voiced reservations in closed meetings, he has avoided public criticism of the president and has continued defending the administration’s policy toward Iran. The report that Hegseth and Ratcliffe could be dismissed has not been independently verified, but the deepening rift inside the administration has been confirmed by several American media outlets.
