New Ultra-Orthodox Party Aims to Sap Votes from Established Factions

Efforts are underway to establish a new ultra-Orthodox political party intended to siphon votes from existing religious parties, particularly Yahadut HaTorah and Shas. This new faction, described as the "home party for draft-dodging Haredim," plans to campaign on a platform of exemption from military service for all draft-dodging ultra-Orthodox men. The primary objective is to "burn votes" from the established parties, whose voters are reportedly disillusioned with the lack of resolution to the military conscription crisis for the ultra-Orthodox community.

This development follows the recent arrest of six draft-dodging ultra-Orthodox men attempting to leave Israel via Ben Gurion Airport. Security personnel apprehended them, and upon investigation, it was discovered they were subject to military draft orders and civil travel bans.

Separately, another new ultra-Orthodox list, "HaTzibur HaHaredi," which supports core curriculum studies and military conscription, is reportedly in discussions with Ofer Vinter about a potential joint run. This collaboration is contingent on Vinter seeing polling data indicating significant support for his campaign. Former Minister Eli Yishai of Shas is being considered as a potential leader for this list, but he too is awaiting poll results. "HaTzibur HaHaredi" is also reportedly in contact with Benny Gantz's Blue and White party and Gilad Erdan's Unity party.
