Yitzhak Meir Leads Annual Selichot Service in Jerusalem

The annual "First Selichot" event with singer Yitzhak Meir will take place this year at Jerusalem's Binyanei Ha'uma convention center. For over a decade, Meir and his musical ensemble have led this service, which features traditional Selichot melodies, prayer, and communal singing.

The event aims to create an atmosphere of spiritual awakening, prayer, and unity as the Jewish High Holy Days approach. It combines familiar Selichot tunes with moving prayer segments designed to usher attendees into the mood of late Elul and the Days of Awe.

Meir leads the service from the center of the hall, with the audience gathering around him, fostering a sense of connection and holiness. This year's service is scheduled for Saturday night, September 26th, coinciding with the Torah portion "Nitzavim Vayelech." The event is held under the auspices of the Jerusalem Municipality's Department of Israeli Heritage, and Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion is expected to attend.
